Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Thursday launched the 2.0 version of its highly successful device, JioPhone. At its 41st annual general meeting, Mukesh Ambani called upon his daughter and son Isha and Akash Ambani to dmeonstrate the new features, JioPhone 2 is loaded with. The new and advanced JioPhone will come up with Facebook, WhatsApp and the Youtube app. The app will be able to work with simple voice commands. 

The newer variant comes with a QWERTY keypad along with a four-way navigation pad. The smart feature phone will be available from August 15 for Rs 2,999 with Jio’s schemes.

“We have more than 25 million JioPhone users in India. We are now taking the JioPhone to the next level, with added capabilities and functionalities,” said RIL’s Chairman & Managing Director Mukesh Ambani. 

Since I last spoke, we have doubled our [Jio] customer base to over 215 million now. 215 million customers within 22 months of start is a record that no technology company has been able to achieve anywhere in the world,” he added.

JioPhone 2 will come with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of ROM. The smartphone supports SD card for expandable storage up to 128GB. Besides, JioPhone 2  supports dual-SIM, LTE, and VoLTE, VoWi-Fi.

Mukesh Ambani also announced a new Jio Monsoon offer under which customers can replace their older JioPhone for a new JioPhone 2 for Rs 500. The scheme is available from July 21.

Mukesh Ambani also announced plans to launch ultra high speed fixed line broadband services for homes and enterprises.

Speaking at the company's 41st annual general meeting, Ambani said the service will provide ultra high definition entertainment on TV, voice activated assistance, virtual reality gaming and digital shopping as well as smart home solutions.

"We will now extend fiber connectivity to homes, merchants, small and medium enterprises and large enterprises simultaneously across 1,100 cities to offer the most advanced fiber-based broadband connectivity solutions," he said.
