Sensex closes 138 pts higher

A fag-end buying reversed the trend on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Wednesday as major players covered their short positions, placing the benchmark Sensex higher by over 138 points to regain a level above the 12K mark.

MUMBAI: A fag-end buying reversed the trend on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Wednesday as major players covered their short positions, placing the benchmark Sensex higher by over 138 points to regain a level above the 12K mark.


The Sensex ended 138.67 points higher at 12,109.14 as heavy-weights like Larsen and Toubro, BHEL, Bajaj Auto, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communication, Reliance Industries and Infosys gained notable ground on brisk buying. It moved between 12,128.99 and 11,833.61 points.


The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty also gained 45.45 points higher at 3,502.80. It touched the day's high of 3,509.85 points and a low of 3,419.75 points.
