Sensex closes 61 pts higher on blue-chip support

The sensex, which had reached 12,000 mark level in previous trade, rose further by 66.25 at 12,075.85 in first five minutes of trade.

MUMBAI: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark, Sensex, closed higher by over 61 points on sustained buying by funds in heavy-weight blue chip stocks.

The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) gained 61.71 points at 12,071.30 after touching the day's high of 12,114.95 points and a low of 12,006.19 points as foreign as well as domestic funds picked fundamentally strong scrips on every fall.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty ended 14.15 points higher at 3,492.75 points. It touched a high of 3,506.20 and low of 3478.40 points.

The major support to the market came in from Larsen and Toubro, Infosys, BHEL, Ranbaxy, ITC, Hero Honda and leading cement stocks.
