MUMBAI: Small town investors and small investors have not played a major role in the recent spike in Sensex. They are followers and not leaders. Some small investors have made a lot of money, but others have lost a lot too.

The loss is mainly because of a wrong position taken by them thinking that the market is going high.

Different sectors in the stock market have done very well.

Substantial amount of money has come to the mutual fund industry and insurance sector. Small investors don’t understand secondary market too much so they have invested in the big issues like Reliance Petroleum, DLF and TCS.

These investors in the primary market have made money. It will take some time for small town India to be an integral part of the stock market.
