Rajeev Shukla is all set for a second innings at the BCCI as he is all set to become the vice-president of the Indian Cricket Board unopposed during the BCCI Annual General Meeting which will be held in Ahmedabad on December 24. Rajeev Shukla, who was the vice-president of the BCCI when N Srinivasan was the president, was the frontrunner after his name was proposed by DDCA president Rohan Jaitley and seconded by Uttarakhand's Mahim Verma, who had vacated the post earlier this year. Once Verma had vacated the post of BCCI vice-presidency, Shukla's reinstatement was always on the cards. Rajeev Shukla was also the chairman of the IPL Governing Council.
While there were some question marks as to how Rajeev Shukla could come back despite the Lodha committee’s cooling-off period, it is learnt that Rajeev Shukla didn't need to go for a cooling-off period as IPL chairmanship isn't considered as a tenure for an office-bearer. IPL chairman Brijesh Patel and Khairul Jamal (Mamon) Majumdar, who is part of the Cricket Association of Mizoram are the two members who have been re-elected in the governing council.
No elections
According to a report in the Indian Express, the board members have decided not to have any election, but instead fill the vacant posts through unanimous decisions. The BCCI will choose its vice-president and two members of the IPL Governing Council during the AGM on December 24. Rajeev Shukla was Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) secretary till 2017. He was also the IPL chairman till 2018.
Before the meeting though, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has informed all members to undergo RT-PCR coronavirus tests. The board will test the members again in Ahmedabad before they are allowed to attend the AGM.
Motera stadium is all set for a blockbuster cricket festival in 2021 with the Syed Mushtaq Ali knockouts, two Tests against England one of which will be the Pink Ball Test and five Twenty20 Internationals against England. There is a probability that if IPL 2021 is played in India, then Motera stadium, which has a capacity of 110,000 will probably host a sizeable chunk of the games.
