Big Bash League 10: Watch ’Superman’ Jordan Silk’s brilliant fielding that left Glenn Maxwell stunned
Jordan Silk of the Sydney Sixers pulled off a magnificent fielding effort that saved 4 runs for the side in the BBL opener against Hobart Hurricanes.

The opening game of the Big Bash League 2020 between Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Sixers at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart saw plenty of brilliance with the bat and with the ball. There were some excellent moments on the field. There was one such moment in the field during the game when Jordan Silk, considered one of the best fielders in the team, pulled off a stunning effort. The incident took place in the 15th over of the power surge, the two-over batting powerplay that is part of the new rules of the Big Bash League. Tim David had hit three boundaries of Steve O Keefe and in the fifth ball, he was hammered for another boundary by Colin Ingram. On the final ball, there was magic.
Colin Ingram pulled a short ball from O’Keefe to the wide long on fence but Jordan Silk dived full length to his right to catch the ball. Mid-air, he released the ball and flung it back onto the field. His effort saved four runs but Hobart Hurricanes still scored 71 runs in the last five overs to end on 178/8. Adam Gilchrist, who was on commentary at that time, labelled Jordan Silk a ‘Superman’. Glenn Maxwell took to his Twitter account and tweeted, “This is so bloody good!!! Silk’y’ brilliance
This is not the first time that Jordan Silk has pulled off some memorable moments in the Big Bash League while fielding. In one edition of the Big Bash League, Sydney Sixers were taking on Brisbane Heat at the Gabba. Brett Lee was bowling to Craig Kieswetter and the batsman cleared the front leg to blast Lee down to mid on. However, Jordan Silk dived full length to his left and took a one-handed catch. Viv Richards, the West Indies great who was commentating during the match, said this was ‘the best catch he had ever seen’.
Sydney Sixers had let the momentum slip in the death overs but they seemed to have gotten back on track in the chase with James Vince and Jack Edwards sharing a brilliant 116-run stand. However, two wickets from James Faulkner and Riley Meredith gave Hobart Hurricanes a crucial win against the defending champions.
