Giving the update, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that the island nation will be hosting the next edition, while the rights of 2022 edition stay with them.

Speaking to PTI, PCB Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Wasim Khan said, "The next Asia Cup will be hosted in Sri Lanka in June and we have got hosting rights now for the 2022 Asia Cup."

Had the normal schedule gone according to the plan, the Asia Cup would have taken place in the August-September window, which was followed by the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia in October.

Since, it has been pushed to June 2021 in Sri Lanka now, Pakistan automatically gets the 2022 edition hosting rights as compensation.
