After four overs each from Khaleel Ahmed and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami is finally introduced into the attack. Khawaja is on the strike, fails to take a run in the first five balls before he clips one to mid-wicket and bags two to end the over. Good start from Shami here.

Alex Carey was looking to play a responsible knock here. He didn't go after every delivery like his image says about him but unfortunately, he becomes Kuldeep's brilliance's victim here. Kuldeep strikes and Kohli's move to introduce a spinner as early as in the 10th over pays off. Kuldeep bowls a shorter outside off to Carey, who tries to cut when there is no room for. it. He looks to be in a bit of confusion, if he should play or not, but then he decides to play it later and a thick edge flies to Rohit at first slip. That was some catch from Rohit, sharp! 

Australia lose the 2nd wicket and this brings in their out of form senior batsman Shaun Marsh at the crease.

Losing two wickets early in the innings, Australia have not made a great start, but Khawaja and Shaun Marsh are starting to build a good platform. Kohli immediately hands the ball to Ravindra Jadeja in the 17th over in hope to trouble the set batsmen. Jadeja begins well, gives away just three runs in his first over. 

Australia 75 for 2 (Overs 17) 

After Australia lost Alex Carey, thanks to a sharp catch from Rohit Sharma at first slip, the Aussies have been more careful and here Marsh and Khawaja bring up their 50-run stand. This is what the Aussies needed, a stand to lay a platform for the next guys. Khawaja is playing an ODI for Australia after two long years and he is clearly making full use of this given opportunity.

Australia 98 for 2 (Overs 22)

Khawaja and Marsh are now slowly beginning to charge against the Indian attack as they bring up their 50-run stand. The last wicket fell 15 overs back and the Indian skipper clearly is a bit frustrated here. He hands the ball to part-timer Ambati Rayudu, who begins well, gives away just 3 runs in his first over. But in his second, Khawaja smashes Rayudu for two boundaries and Aussies bag 10 runs of that over. Meanwhile, the hosts also bring up 100 runs. PC: AFP

Khaleel Ahmed returns into the attack in the 26th over. The first ball goes dot. The next delivery is full attacking the stumps, Khawaja pushes it to deep square leg and that's his fifty - maiden ODI fifty on the Aussie soil and overall fifth! The Indian bowlers have not made anything easy for him here but Khawaja has worked his way out to conquer them so far. He is returning to ODI cricket after two long years, Australia will like him to convert this start into a hundred today. PC: Twitter

And the fancy sweep goes against Khwaja and he will have to settle with just a fifty today. Jadeja comes to bowl the 29th over and Marsh is at the strike, who takes a single straightaway to give Khawaja the strike. Khawaja once again goes for the artistry sweep shot but misses it and ends up getting hit on the pad. The umpire raises his finger for LBW, Khawaja after having a discussion with Marsh asks for a review. The replays show impact fine and it is hitting the leg stump. Australia retain review but lose Khawaja here. 

Peter Handscomb is the new batsman in. Australia 136 for 3 (Overs 29) 

Aftrer bringing up his 13th ODI fifty, Shaun Marsh becomes Kuldeep Yadav's second wicket of the day. In the 38th over, Kohli brings back Kuldeep into the attack, who starts with a run in his first two balls. In the third ball, Marsh looks to charge on against the spinner but mis-times his lofted drive that flies to long-on where a running Shami dives and takes a brilliant catch. 

Australia 195 for 4, Overs 40

Fifth ODI fifty for Peter Handscomb after Aussies bring their 200 up. After Shaun Marsh and Khawaja, Handscomb has played an excellent role with the bat here. So far, he has struck six boundaries and a six and his batting partner Marcus Stoinis has given him the required support. The duo have also brought up their 50-plus-run stand. 

Australia 247 for 4

Along with Khawaja, Peter Handscomb is also making his ODI comeback after two years and coincidently both have let their bat do the talking today. After the dismissals of Khawaja and Marsh, Handscomb took the charge on his hands and led from the front. He scored his fifth ODI fifty before Bhuvi ended his fantastic knock at 73. In 48th over, Bhuvi bowls a short delivery to Handscomb, who pulls it over long leg for a six. Another short ball, but Bhuivi has the last laugh here. Handscomb uppercuts the ball to sweeper cover, where Dhawan takes a great catch and does the thigh-five! 

Australia 259 for 5

Usman Khawaja had earlier said that 280 or more will be good enough for the hosts but looking at this Indian batting line-up, any score would be less. Although India made early breakthroughs with the wickets of openers Finch and Carey, the other batsmen - Khawaja (59), Marsh (54), Handscomb (73) and Stoinis (47) - have made healthy contributions as they finish at 288 for 5 in 50 overs.

Will India chase this down to go 1-0 up? Let's wait and see. 

Virat Kohli and Co are in big trouble here as Aussies reduce them to 4 for 3 in 3.5 overs! In the fifth ball of the first over, Australia take a terrible review off Behrendorff's bowling but Dhawan does not survive the next ball. He misses it and gets struck on the pads; he walks for a golden duck, while it's maiden ODI wicket for the Aussie!

In the fourth over, Richardson dismisses Kohli and Rayudu in consecutive deliveries to push India into massive trouble here in their chase for 289. 

India 11 for 3, Overs 5

According to statistics on Twitter, it is for the first time in nine years that Dhoni has walked out to bat inside four overs for India in ODI. After a dot, followed by two wides and the four more dots, Dhoni flicks the delivery off an inside edge towards square leg and enters the 10,000-run club for India in the ODIs.He becomes the fifth Indian after Ganguly, Sachin, Dravid and Kohli to this landmark for India. 

With three batters already been sent to the dugout, including the skipper Kohli, Dhoni has a massive task ahead of him today in India's chase of 289. 

India are 26 for 3, Overs 12 

After India lose three quick wickets and saw themselves in huge trouble in the beginning of their innings, Dhoni and opening batsman Rohit Sharma have slowly and steadily built a crucial stand here of 60-plus runs. While Rohit is heading to a half-century, Dhoni is playing his second fiddle.

Massive blow for the tourists as Dhoni has been given LBW. India have no reviews left and the replays show the ball was pitched well outside the leg peg. The newcomer Behrendorff bowls one full to Dhoni at the stumps, he misses the flick and gets pinned leg before wicket.

Justin Langer must be happy as his former team Perth Scorchers' boys are shinning today at the SCG. After Jason Behrendorff, it's Jhye Richardson this time. It is clever bowling from the Aussie. Afer seeing DK's intention of pulling next, he shortens his length and gives the batsman no room. A confused DK goes for the shot too early and a thick inside edge lands on his stumps. PC: PTI

India need 75 off 30 balls, Finch hands the ball to Marcus Stoinis and he does not disappoint! Rohit has no option but to go all guns as he was running out of partners and balls. Stoinis bowls a short ball, Rohit goes for the pull but a thick top-edge flies to Maxwell at deep mid-wicket who makes n0o mistake. Rohit walks off to a standing ovation as the highest ODI score by an Indian at the SCG. 

Game over for India?

India are 238 for 7, need 51 off 12. 

A young Jhye Richardson, in the absence of the big three pacers, led Australia from front as he bagged four wickets for just 26 runs in 10 overs to help his side beat higher-ranked India by 34 runs on Saturday. With this win, the Aussies have gone 1-0 up in the three-match series and this will be major boost considering they lost the Test series and the World Cup is around the corner. PC: ICC Twitter
