IPL 2021 Auction: These 5 players could fetch a lower price by their existing teams

The hard-hitting all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was surely a disappointment during the 2020 edition as he did not even smash one SIX in the whole tournament.

The Australian cricketer has been quite lucky, however, as far as his presence in the IPL is concerned. The batsman has always been one of the most talked-about players and has played for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) between 2014 and 2017. 

In 2018, he was bought by Delhi Capitals (DC) for a huge sum, but he failed to deliver. He then skipped the 2019 season but then when he came back in 2020, it turned out to be a much worse season. 

He was again picked up KXIP for 10.75 crore INR and interestingly, the other team who kept betting on Maxwell were the Capitals. 

Maxwell - in the 2020 season - scored 108 runs from 13 matches which did not help KXIP to enter the top 4. However, he soon regained his batting form when he was back in an Australian squad against India. 

Maxwell will be in high demand this season as well and Kings XI Punjab may plan to buy him back but at a cheaper price.

Veteran bowler Piyush Chawla has featured in every season of the IPL since its inception. The leg-spinner had spent six seasons with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) before they released him and he was bought by Chennai Super Kings for INR 6.75 crores in the IPL 2020 auction. 

The spinner, however, did not have a great season and in the seven games he played, he took only six scalps with an economy of 9. CSK then released him ahead of the 2021 IPL auction. 

However, there are chances that CSK can actually buy him again but not at the 6.75 crores which they had spent. 

South African all-rounder Chris Morris has loads of experience as he can swing the ball when it's new and then come back and bowl the death overs. He is also a great striker of the ball as well. However, Morris lacks consistency which affected Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pretty much in 2020. 

RCB had even gone on a back-to-back bidding war for the Proteas player and had eventually brought him for INR 10 crore. The large sum of money was questioned by many, however, Morris was coming from a good season with Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League (BBL).

In the nine matches which he played in 2020, Morris managed to pick up 11 wickets with an average of 19. His economy was 6.63. Apart from this, he scored 34 runs at a strike rate of above 160. 

So if he did perform well, why was he released? This could be because RCB were happy with his performance but wanted to repurchase him for a lesser amount. The franchise can possibly fit in Morris and a few other players in the initial amount.

Australian fast bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile has been one of the most consistent players in the shorter format of the game. He was picked up by Mumbai Indians (MI) for a huge sum of INR 8 crore after an intense battle with Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

However, the pacer suffered an injury at the start of the IPL 2020. He did manage to get fit in time and played seven matches for Mumbai Indians. He even took five wickets in those matches. 

His release did not come as a surprise as the MI team has many options to go back to. However, there will be many buyers and there are high chances that the Mumbai camp could buy him again but for a little less money. 

Coulter-Nile did not feature in the entire Big Bash League 2020-21, but when he did, he did make an impact. 

Afghan player Mujeeb Ur Rahman is currently No. 2 in the ICC ODI and T20I rankings, so when Kings XI Punjab released him, it surprised many. The good overseas spinner at 21 years of age is with no franchise and he could go for a good bid. 

The bowler played only seven matches in 2019 and 2020 combined and he kept warming the benches. He was bought by KXIP for INR 4.0 crore ahead of the 2018 IPL season and even though the amount is not big, it seems that Mujeeb could be fetched at a much lesser amount.

It is also quite possible that the Kings could once again try to buy Mujeeb especially after he has had a great season with Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League 2020-21.
