India pacer Mohammed Siraj graciously dedicated his prize money to the hardworking ground staff after being awarded the prestigious Man of the Match title in the Asia Cup final.
The prize money for this esteemed award amounted to USD 5,000 or Rs 4.15 Lakhs. In a heartwarming gesture, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had previously announced a generous award of USD 50,000, or Rs 41.54 Lakhs, for the ground staff of Kandy and Colombo.
“I think they deserve a lot of credit. The tournament would not have gone ahead without their work,” said Siraj at the post-match presentation.
Siraj's exceptional performance in the final, where he achieved a remarkable spell of 6/21, including four wickets in a single over, earned him the well-deserved Man of the Match recognition. However, instead of keeping the prize money for himself, Siraj selflessly chose to honor the tireless efforts of the ground staff.
The dedicated ground staff at the R Premadasa Stadium worked tirelessly day and night to ensure the smooth progress of the tournament as per the scheduled plan. Their unwavering commitment and hard work behind the scenes played a crucial role in the successful execution of the Asia Cup.
