This marks Gambhir's first assignment since Rahul Dravid's successful tenure, which culminated in India's T20 World Cup victory in 2024.

India is set to embark on a thrilling tour of Sri Lanka, featuring three action-packed T20Is and an equal number of ODIs in late July and early August. The series kicks off with back-to-back T20Is on July 26 and 27, followed by the ODIs starting on August 1, with a two-day break between each match.

The Pallekele International Cricket Stadium will be the stage for the T20Is, while the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo will host the ODIs, promising an electrifying atmosphere for fans and players alike.

Both teams will be under the guidance of new head coaches, with Sanath Jayasuriya leading Sri Lanka as the interim head coach and Gautam Gambhir taking charge as India's new head coach. This marks Gambhir's first assignment since Rahul Dravid's successful tenure, which culminated in India's T20 World Cup victory in 2024.

The last bilateral white-ball series between India and Sri Lanka took place in July 2021, with Dravid as the stand-in coach and Shikhar Dhawan captaining the team. India emerged victorious in the ODI series with a 2-1 scoreline, while Sri Lanka claimed the T20Is by the same margin.

Following their triumphant T20 World Cup campaign, this series will be India's second T20I challenge, building on their current tour of Zimbabwe.
