The BCCI has announced the All-India Senior Selection Committee appointments on Thursday during a virtual conference.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Mr Madan Lal, Mr Rudra Pratap Singh and Ms Sulakshana Naik selected the three members of the All-India Senior Selection Committee (Men), who will join Sunil Joshi and Harvinder Singh in the selection Committee
BCCI's release stated, "The CAC has recommended the following candidates for the senior men’s selection committee panel."
- Mr Chetan Sharma
- Mr Abey Kuruvilla
- Mr Debashish Mohanty
"The committee further recommended Mr Chetan Sharma for the role of Chairman of the senior men’s selection committee based on seniority (total number of Test matches). The CAC will review the candidates after a one-year period and make the recommendations to the BCCI," the release added.
Sharma, who is famously known for taking the first-ever hattrick for India in the ODIs pipped another fast bowler Ajit agarkar, who was one of the front runners to be in the selection panel.
Chetan Sharma has represented India in 23 Tests and 65 ODIs and has taken 61 and 67 wickets respectively. The fast bowler avergae 35 in the tests and 34 in the ODIs and was one of the most reverred bowlers and stars for the men in blue in the 1987 Cricket World Cup.
