Sourav Ganguly discharged from Woodlands hospital, says is 'absolutely fine'

Sourav Ganguly, the BCCI president, who suffered a mild cardiac arrest on January 2nd, has been discharged from hospital and he was seen to be in fine shape. Sourav Ganguly was accompanied by his wife Dona and the duo greeted supporters outside who had gathered to enquire about the well being of Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly was admitted to Woodlands hospital after he had a mild cardiac arrest. Speaking outside the hospital to reporters, Sourav Ganguly said, "We come to hospital to save our lives. That has proven true. I thank the Woodlands hospital and all the doctors for the excellent care. I am absolutely fine. Hope I am ready to fly soon," Ganguly said.

Sourav Ganguly was hospitalised at 1 pm on January 2 with "chest discomfort, heaviness of head, vomiting and a spell of dizziness" while performing physical exercise in the home gymnasium at around 11 am. Following this, doctors had conducted angioplasty on him. On January 2, 48-year-old Ganguly was tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which turned out to be negative.

When Sourav Ganguly had come to the hospital earlier, the hospital conducted tests in which he had suffered a mild heart attack and the former India skipper had blockages in three coronary arteries. "He came in good time. One of his arteries had a critical blockage which we removed through angioplasty," Aftab Khan, a cardiologist, told reporters outside the hospital."He has improved, the pain in his chest has reduced. He is stable now. He has to be kept under observation for 24 hours so he will have to stay in hospital."

The private hospital formed a medical board and they were regularly updating the media on Sourav Ganguly’s health.

Ganguly's India redemption

The former left-handed batsman, who retired from international cricket in 2008, played 113 Tests and 311 one-dayers and led India to 21 test wins. Under his captaincy, India won Tests in England and Australia after close to or over two decades. India also managed to win a series in Pakistan for the first time. Under his captaincy, India managed to stage a remarkable renaissance in their cricket following the match-fixing scandal that had eroded fan trust in 2000. India also managed to reach the final of the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup but they lost to Australia in the final in Johannesburg.

As BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly has been instrumental in ensuring India also laps up the Pink Ball Test and has been a big fan of this variation of cricket.
