England cricketer Joe Root bagged yet another unwanted record to his name during his side's second ODI clash against Australia at Old Trafford on Sunday (September 13). Root, who came out to bat after Jonny Bairstow's early dismissal in the fourth over, went on to play one of the slowest knocks of his cricketing career. The 29-year-old started off his innings at a very slow pace and went on to score a 60-ball 23 and became the slowest England batsman to achieve that score in an ODI since 2010.
However, Root's stay at the crease was cut short by bowler Adam Zampa. The Australian spinner bowled a back of the length delivery which completely Root, who ended up leaving an easy cat fro Aaron Finch to take.
Earlier in the day, England won the toss and skipper Eoin Morgan opted to bat first in Manchester.
After suffering a loss in the first two Twenty20 Internationals, Australia bounced back with a win in the third T20I and they managed to continue the winning momentum by winning the first ODI in Manchester by 19 runs.
Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh were the stars with fifties while Josh Hazlewood picked up three wickets for 26 runs. England were boosted by an aggressive fifty from Jonny Bairstow and a magnificent maiden hundred from Sam Billings as England fell short. Australia will be hoping to seal the series with victory in the second ODI.
