FIR registered against Yuvraj Singh for 'casteist remark' during Instagram Live with Rohit Sharma

The comment made by Yuvraj Singh was deemed to be in bad taste towards the Dalit community.

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh's Instagram Live with Rohit Sharma in 2020 has landed him legal trouble. The 2011 World Cup-winning cricketer has an FIR registered against him for his 'casteist remark' he made while talking with the Hitman.

The comment made by Yuvraj was deemed to be in bad taste towards the Dalit community and it didn't go down well with the netizens as well.

The complaint has been lodged by an advocate from the Hisar Division of Haryana for Yuvraj's comments. If reports are to be believed, the Haryana police have registered an FIR on the case almost eight months after Yuvraj had spoken on the Instagram Live.

According to India Today report, the Hansi police in Hisar have filed a case under Sections 153, 153A, 295, 505 of IPC, besides sections 3 (1) (r) and 3 (1) (s) of the SC/ST Act.

During the Insta Live, the former Mumbai Indians (MI) player had used a word while talking about Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Soon after, Yuvraj faced severe criticism.

As for Yuvraj, soon after the issue was raised, he was quick to issue an apology. The veteran stated that he didn't mean to hurt the sentiments of anyone.

"This is to clarify I have never believed in any kind of disparity, be it on the basis of caste, colour, creed, or gender. I have given and continue to spend my life for the welfare of people. I believe in the dignity of life and respect each individual without exception

"I understand that while I was having a conversation with my friends, I was misunderstood, which was unwarranted. However, as a responsible Indian I want to say that if I have unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments or feelings, I would like to express regret for the same. My love for India and all its people is eternal," Yuvraj stated.
