IND vs AUS: COVID-19 chaos forces changes to Aussie squad

Despite the sudden surge in COVID-19 cases in South Australia, Cricket Australia (CA) on Tuesday clarified that it remains committed to hosting the day-night Test between India and Australia in Adelaide.

Despite the sudden surge in COVID-19 cases in South Australia, Cricket Australia (CA) on Tuesday clarified that it remains committed to hosting the day-night Test between India and Australia in Adelaide.

"CA continues to monitor the situation in South Australia but remains committed to hosting the first Vodafone Test against India at the Adelaide Oval," CA said in an official statement.

The COVID-19 outbreak has even caused some forced changes to Aussie ODI, T20 squad. Pace bowler Kane Richardson has withdrawn from Australia's limited-overs series to spend time with his newborn son.

He has been replaced by Andrew Tye. Tye was part of Australia's squad on their recent limited-overs tour of England.

"It was a difficult decision for Kane to make but one which has the complete support of the selectors and the entire playing squad," national selector Trevor Hohns said in a statement.

"Kane wanted to remain in Adelaide with Nyki and their newborn son. We will always support our players and their families; even more so given the challenging environment we are in."

India and Australia are slated to face off in three ODIs, three T20Is, and four Tests. The first Test is slated to commence from December 17 in Adelaide and it is set to be a day-night contest.

The limited-overs series, involving three one-day and three Twenty20 matches in Sydney and Canberra, will precede the four tests.

Cricket Australia added that because of the outbreak, D`Arcy Short and Josh Philippe will train with the Australian limited-overs squad in Sydney from next week before they join their Big Bash sides.

Cricket Australia also clarified that the players and staff from Western Australia, Tasmania, and Queensland who are part of the Australian ODI and T20I squads are travelling to Sydney today to commence their preparation for both series.
