Guwahati had a golden opportunity to prove their love for cricket as 2020's first T20I match was held at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium between India and Sri Lanka.
While this match was to be a “curtain-raiser”, ahead of the stadium hosting two home matches of Rajasthan Royals this season - rains played the spoilsport.
The first of the three-match T20I series was called off without a ball being bowled, however, the spirit of the crowd did not deter.
After the toss took place at the decided time, the rain started in Guwahati.
After about one and a half-hour of rain, the damp patches on the pitch forced the match into a no-result contest.
The rain caused delay did not take away the energy from the crowd as they started singing 'Vande Matram'.
The BCCI even posted the video on Twitter, in which fans were singing the chorus of Vande Matram while skipper Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant were entering the ground to check the condition of the pitch.
BCCI captioned the video: "Guwahati, you beauty."
