The two sides will meet again in Mumbai for the third and final match of the series on Friday (January 10).

India's captain fantastic Virat Kohli has broken yet another record during his side's second T20I match against Sri Lanka on Tuesday (January 7) in Indore.

Virat became the fastest skipper to score 1000 runs in T20I cricket, only the sixth individual ever to reach this milestone.

Going into the match, Kohli needed just 25 more runs to achieve the feat and he did exactly that. He played an unbeaten knock of 30 runs to guide his side to victory.

Other than MS Dhoni (1112 runs from 62 games), Kohli is only the second-ever Indian to reach this record milestone as a skipper.

The 'Men In Blue' captain also went past Rohit Sharma to become the highest run-scorer in the shortest format of the game.

Before the match, both players were tied on 2,633 runs under their belt, with Kohli needing just one run to surpass Sharma on the runs tally.

Rohit Sharma is not part of the 'Men In Blue' squad for their series against the Lankans but will return to the lineup for India's three-match ODI series against Australia later this month.

Team India cruised to a 7-wicket win over Sri Lanka with 16 balls to spare at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.

With this victory, the home side also secured a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.

The two sides will meet again in Mumbai for the third and final match of the series on Friday (January 10).
