Rohit Sharma's 22nd One-Day International (ODI) century went in vain as Australia defeated India by 34 runs in the first ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday.

Although his century could not guide Team India to the other side while chasing a target of 289 in the opening fixture, Rohit recorded a personal milestone Down Under.

The Mumbai batsman now has scored four hundreds on Australian soil to go past West Indies great Viv Richards’ tally of three. Meanwhile, the Indian skipper and arguably the current best batsman, Virat Kohli, has two hundreds to his name in Australia.

H owever, the milestone is bitter-sweet in terms of team and personal achievements. While it shows good on his ODI CV, it isn't the same when the team results are brought into consideration because India have lost all the four matches when their opener has managed three-figure scores in Down Under.

The Indian vice-captain will look to change that when India lock horns against Australia in the second ODI at the Adelaide Oval on Tuesday followed by the third and the final game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday.
