Kohli has become the highest-scoring Indian Test batsman on overseas soil in a calendar year. The record was broken during his 82 knock in the first innings of the third Test against Australia on Thursday.

Earlier, 'The Wall' had held the record with 1137 runs in overseas Tests in 2002. Kohli now has 1138 runs to his name this year in such Tests.

Mohinder Amarnath is third on the list scoring 1065 runs in just nine matches (14 innings) in 1983. The great Sunil Gavaskar comes fourth with 918 runs in 14 innings, during his debut year in international cricket in 1971.

Kohli was dismissed for 82 by Mitchell Starc after he tried to hit a short delivery over the third man fielder’s head for a six. He was however caught in the deep by Aaron Finch.

Kohli’s innings of 82 has also helped him become the captain with the third-highest score at the historic MCG.
