Indian opener Murali Vijay was dismissed without scoring bagging 'a pair' on the fourth day of the ongoing second Test at Lord's on Sunday. Vijay had not scored in the first innings too.
Vijay joined an unwanted list of cricketers who have registered a pair in England.
Vijay became the sixth Indian opener to be dismissed for 'a pair' after Pankaj Roy (vs England, Manchester, 1952), F Engineer (vs WI, Mumbai WS, 1975), W Jaffer (vs Bangladesh, Chittagong, 2007), V Sehwag (vs England, Edgbaston, 2011), S Dhawan (vs SA, Mohali, 2015).
Vijay also became the third Indian opener to register a pair in England after Roy and Sehwag.
This was also the first time in 11 years that India lost both their first wicket without a run on board in either innings. This has last happened with Jaffer's dismissal in 2007 at Chittagong.
Vijay also joined Kuldeep Yadav to set another unique record. Yadav also bagged a pair in the match. He and Vijay became only fourth pair of batsmen to bag 'a pair' for India in the same test match. They joined BS Bedi and BS Chandrasekhar (vs Eng, Delhi, 1976), Maninder Singh and D Doshi (vs Pakistan, Karachi, 1982) and Harbhajan Singh and A Nehra (vs West Indies, POS, 2002) in this not-so illustrious list.
Vijay was dismissed by James Anderson in both innings. Vijay, who had scored 402 runs during the 2014 tour in England, has registered scores of 20, 6, 0 and 0 in the series so far.
