India completed a 3-0 treble as they beat England in all three formats by 3-1, 3-2 and 2-1 by winning the final ODI by just seven runs at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune. The game was not without its share of ebbs and flows as the pendulum kept swinging through the 100 overs but it the hosts, who kept their nerves despite Sam Curran's valiant effort.
England were in a spot of bother at various junctures during their batting innings as they were 95/4 at one stage and 200/7 at another while chasing a 330-run target. But it was the 22-year old who weathered the storm for his side and proved to be the one-man army and with the help of Adil Rashid and Mark Wood, he kept coasting along as the run-rate was never the problem.
He brought up his maiden fifty in the ODIs and wasn't giving up as he helped England to rise up from the deep hole they were in and marched towards an improbable win. However, with the tailender alongside him, he had to keep the strike with himself and the total became out of his reach.
Ultimately, it was left-arm pacer T Natarajan, who kept his nerve and bowled a fantastic last over to not let Sam Curran pull off a thrilling chase as India won the decider by seven runs and the series 2-1.
From former cricketers Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Wasim Jaffer to the actor, director and producer Farhan Akhtar, all were singing praises of the English all-rounder while congratulating India for the win.
