Rohit Sharma scored his 16th T20I half-century as he led his India against New Zealand in the 2nd T20I of the 3-match series on Friday. The Indian captain, who was out for just 1 run in the first match, made amends and scored 50 off just 29 balls to give India a great start in the chase of 159.
Rohit also reached a huge personal milestone with his innings. When he reached 36 on Friday, Rohit Sharma overtook New Zealand's Martin Guptill to become the all-time highest-run getter in T20Is. Guptill is not part of the series due to an injury.
Rohit now has 2288 runs from 92 T20I matches for India so far at an average of 32.43 with four centuries and 16 half-centuries. Before the match, he was third on the list of highest run-getters in the format with Guptill (2272 runs) and Pakistan's Shoaib Malik (2263 runs) ahead of him.
India captain Virat Kohli (2167 runs) is placed fourth in the chart ahead of former New Zealand wicket-keeper batsman Brendon McCullum (2140).
Rohit also became the third player in the history of T20 cricket after Guptill and Chris Gayle to hit 100 sixes.
