IPL 2019: Daniel Vettori sacked as RCB go for Virat Kohli-recommended coaching team, says report

Gary Kirsten is the front-runner to take over from Vettori as the head coach, according to the report.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore has decided to sack the caoching and support staff including the head coach Daniel Vettori. 

According to the report in Mumbai Mirror, the batting and fielding coach Trent Woodhill and the bowling coach Andrew McDonald have also been sacked by the Diageo management which owns the franchise. However, Ashish Nehra's will remain the bowling mentor of the team. 

Gary Kirsten is the front-runner to take over from Vettori as the head coach, according to the report. 

The report claimed that the franchise are retaining and hiring coaching staffs only on captain Virat Kohli's recommendation. 

It said that the new coaching staff will be announced next week, with those coming in with Kohli's recommendation being the likely favourites. 

RCB is one of the strongest teams in the history of IPL. But the team is yet to win the title in 11 years. They managed to win only 6 matches out of 14 in IPL 2018 and finished 6th in the points table despite the presence of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in the team.

The report also claimed that Brad Hodge, head coach of IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab, has been asked to leave while Shane Warne is likely to be appointed as the head coach of Rajasthan Royals. Ricky Ponting is likely to stay at Delhi Daredevils as their head coach.
