Team India cricketer KL Rahul has been named as the new skipper of the Indian Premier League (IPL) side Kings XI Punjab for the 2020 season of the tournament.
Head coach Anil Kumble after the auction confirmed Rahul's appointment and said this responsibility to lead a team will help him grow as a player.
“This is the right moment for Rahul in his career [to become captain]. This leadership role will really help him grow,” Kumble said.
KL himself released a video and said he is really happy to take up the captain's armband.
Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on November 7 confirmed the trade of Ravichandran Ashwin to Delhi Capitals (DC) for Rs. 1.5 crore in exchange of left-arm spinner Jagadeesha Suchith bringing an end to all the speculations over Ashwin's future for the upcoming IPL 2020 season.
The Punjab based franchise broke the back to recruit Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell for Rs 10.75 crore.
They also added West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for Rs 8.50 crore with India pacer Ishan Porel, Deepak Hooda also being picked up in the auction.
Kiwi all-rounder Jimmy Neesham was another big addition made by the Kings ahead of the 2020 season of the IPL.
