Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja showed on Friday why he is considered one of the best fielders in the world in his side's game against the Punjab Kings in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Jadeja was doing everything, he was hitting the stumps directly from his favourite position of backward point and was taking flying catches at the same position.
Jadeja first showed the magic of his rocket arm to dismiss the Punjab skipper KL Rahul. Left-handed batsman Chris Gayle poked a Deepak Chahar delivery in front of the backward point. There was a hesitation from Gayle as Rahul called for a run and then both stuttered in between and it was enough for Jadeja to make the mess of the furniture and catch Rahul short. After the hesitation, they both decided to complete the single, it gave time for Jadeja to settle on his aim and pick the ball up quickly and disturb the stumps in no time.
'Sir Jadeja' as he is popularly known amongst fans was 'Air Jadeja' in his next piece of brilliance in the field, this time to see the back of Gayle himself. A fuller length knuckle ball from Chahar and Gayle failed to spot the change in pace and was into his shot, which meant he could get it to chip to the right of the backward point and Jadeja decided to fly this time and took a stunner to get a big wicket of the 41-year old.
Jadeja's brilliance in the field meant Punjab was in deep trouble losing three wickets for just 19 runs. Jadeja, who has been injured and away from the cricketing action for a while, looked sharp and the fans couldn't control their excitement seeing the same.
While many fans used the famous dialogue from the 2015 Hindi film, Bajirao Mastani, many users gave him the name, 'Air Jadeja'.
