During the 1st T20I against New Zealand, Warner said that it was surprising to see that RCB spent so much money on Maxwell.

Despite failing with the bat in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 14.25 crore at the IPL auction held in Chennai few days ago. RCB's decision to break the bank for Maxwell has left everyone surprised, including his Australia teammate David Warner.

During the 1st T20I against New Zealand, Warner – who was sitting in the commentary box with former Australian opener Mark Waugh – said that it was surprising to see that RCB spent so much money on Maxwell who was released by Punjab Super Kings due to poor show with the bat.

“Not a bad result in the IPL auction for the ‘Big Show’ either,” Warner said on-air.

Former Australian opener Mark Waugh responded, saying, “Considering his last IPL season.”

“It’s surprising, you get let go from your franchise and you get a lot more after being released,” Warner added.

In the match, Maxwell once again failed to live up to expectations as he returned to pavilion after scoring just one run. Australia were defeated by 53 runs in the first T20 by New Zealand.

Earlier, former Australian player Brad Hogg said it was a ‘huge risk to play Maxwell'.
