The Board of control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced a panel comprising of Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy to select the new Indian women's cricket coach.
According to reports, the Indian cricket board is expected to bring a new coach on board before India's New Zealand tour begins on January 24. The tour includes three each of One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20 Internationals (T20Is).
The Indian women's team going through a tough phase as it is divided with T20I skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and her deputy Smriti Mandhana wanting Ramesh Powar's extension, while ODI captain and senior-most player Mithali Raj is against the same.
Powar's term ended on November 30, a week after India lost the semifinals of the World T20 to England. Apparently, it was a collective decision of Harmanpreet and Powar to drop Mithali for the knock-out clash and that triggered a huge controversy, leading to Powar's exit.
