Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) examination is considered by many as the toughest examination in India and each year lakhs of UPSC aspirants appear in the exam with an aim to crack it and become IAS officer. But only a few of them succeed in cracking UPSC exam and become IAS officers. In this article we will talk about Amay Khurasiya, a former Indian cricketer who had cleared the UPSC exam before making his India debut. Amay Khurasiya is the only international cricketer who holds the unique distinction of clearing UPSC exam.

Born in 1972, Amay Khurasiya once played with legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag and Ajay Jadeja. The Madhya Pradesh cricketer made his first-class cricket debut at just 17. The stylish left-handed middle-order batter made his India debut in 1999 in the Pepsi Cup against Sri Lanka. Amay Khurasiya was included in the 1999 Indian World Cup squad, but did not play in any match in the tournament.

Amay Khurasiya’s international career however, was not a long one. Khurasiya played just 12 ODIs for the Men in Blue. He scored a total of 149 runs, playing his last match for India in 2001 against Sri Lanka. In first-class cricket, however, Khurasiya was a big name of his time as he amassed over 7,000 runs in 1999 matches.

It is to be noted that Amay Khurasiya cleared the prestigious UPSC exam before making his debut for India. Despite having a civil servant career in front of him, Khurasiya decided to pursue his passion and went on the represent India at the highest level. According to reports, Khurasiya currently holds the post of an Inspector in Indian Customs & Central Excise Department. Apart from his bureaucratic duties, Khurasiya also nurtures young talent for the Indian Premier League (IPL) and further to the international stage. He has mentored and coached the likes of Virat Kohli’s RCB teammate Rajat Patidar and fast bowler Avesh Khan.
