Fakhar Zaman broke a number of records during the fifth One-Day International (ODI) between Pakistan and Zimbabwe on Sunday. The opener scored 85 off 83, just days after becoming the first Pakistani to score a double-century in an ODI. On Sunday, Zaman went past the likes of Vivian Richards, Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott, Quinton de Kock and Babar Azam to become the fastest man to 1,000 ODI runs. He got there in merely 18 innings, while the rest of the aforementioned players took 21 innings. Indian captain Virat Kohli, a modern-day ODI great, got his 1,000th run in his 24th knock.
Zaman's 515 runs in the series is also the most by a player in a five-match series. Going into the fifth game, Zaman had scored 430 runs and needed just 20 more to become the fastest ever to 1,000 ODI runs. At one point in the series, Zaman had scored 454 runs without getting out. This is the most number of runs by any batsman in ODI history without getting dismissed. The previous record was by Pakistan's Mohammad Yousuf, who had amassed 405 runs between two dismissals in 2002.
On Friday, in the fourth ODI, Zaman became the first Pakistani to score an ODI double-hundred with an unbeaten 210. This was the eighth ODI double in history and Zaman became the sixth man to do so. India's Rohit Sharma (thrice), Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, West Indies' Chris Gayle, and New Zealand's Martin Guptill are the other men to achieve this feat.
In the same game, Zaman came together with Imam-ul-Haq to break the all-time opening partnership record in ODI history. The Pakistani pair's opening stand of 304 runs took them past Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga who held the record up until then.
Zaman made his ODI debut just over a year ago in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 and smashed 252 runs in just four innings in India-Pakistan final. During the course of the ODI series in Zimbabwe, Zaman had recorded scores of 60, 117 (not out), 43 (not out) and 210 (not out) prior to the latest innings. Zaman has scored three centuries and five half-centuries in eighteen ODIs that he has played so far.
