Meet Rajasthan's 'Junior Gayle' Mahipal Lomror who hit 24 runs in one over against Punjab Kings

Adam Gilchrist fan Mahipal Lomror finally announced himself in the IPL with an innings of 43 runs off just 17 balls against Punjab Kings.

Born in Rajasthan's Nagaur, Mahipal Lomror idiolised former Australian wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist when he started playing cricket at the age of eight. Lomror shifted from Nagaur to Jaipur in 2011 and established himself as a top-order batsman.

He was called 'Junior Gayle' in age-group cricket because of his ability to tonk the ball a long way. Lomror started as a batsman but later turned slowly into an all-rounder, who could bowl handy left-arm spin.

Part of the Ishan Kishan-led 2016 Under-19 World Cup team that featured the likes of Rishabh Pant, Sarfraz Khan, Washington Sundar, Lomror made his first-class debut in the same year. Since then the 21-year old has played 23 matches scoring 1269 runs at 36.25 while taking 28 wickets.

Lomror rose through Under-16 and Under-19 levels for Rajasthan and later was picked in the U-19 World Cup squad and impressed one and all in only his second match, against New Zealand scoring a 45-run knock and laos taking a five-wicket haul.

After which, the left-hander was picked by the then Delhi Daredevils but he didn't play any game for them in that season. Rajasthan Royals picked him in 2018 and sine then he has just played seven game and has been in and it of the team, but he started in the Royals' playing XI in the second half and he announced himself in the league finally after being with the side for four years.

Lomror was aggressive from the start and took on Adil Rashid hitting two sixes in his over. But the moment of the game came in the 16th over of the innings bowled by Deepak Hooda when he hit two sixes and as many fours accumulating 24 runs off the over as he ended up scoring 43 runs off just 17 balls at a strike rate of 252, helping his side get to a score of 185 runs in the 20 overs.
