Ravindra Jadeja suffered a blow to his thumb while batting in the Sydney Test. The left-arm all-rounder has not bowled in the second innings yet.

After Rishabh Pant was taken to hospital after he suffered a blow to his elbow, India suffered yet another massive jolt when their star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was taken to hospital for scans after suffering a blow on the left thumb while batting in the Sydney Test against Australia on Sydney. In a statement released by the BCCI, they said, “Ravindra Jadeja suffered a blow to his left thumb while batting. He has been taken for scans.” The incident took place when Ravindra Jadeja was batting with the tail and trying to protect the tailenders against the likes of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood.

The incident occurred in the fourth ball of the 99th over when Ravindra Jadeja was facing Mitchell Starc. The bowler was coming round the wicket and pounding the short ball on the stumps. On the fourth ball, Ravindra Jadeja hopped and looked to defend a short ball to the off side. In the process, he got hit on the left thumb and was in considerable pain. The physio came and taped the left thumb. Jadeja continued to bat and he hit some boundaries as India managed to get the lead below 100. India were eventually bowled out for 244, managing to concede a 94-run lead to Australia.

Big blow for India

Ravindra Jadeja’s potential absence could cause a lot of problems for India. The all-rounder took four wickets and managed to get rid of the dangerous Marnus Labuschagne in the first innings for 91. Ravindra Jadeja also mopped up the tail and he also fielded brilliantly to run out Steve Smith for 131. His contribution with the bat might not have been significant, causing two run-outs but still got India’s deficit to under 100 while batting with the tail.

Australia managed to stretch the lead past 150 with Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith stitching yet another solid stand. R Ashwin dismissed David Warner for the 10th time while Mohammed Siraj got the better of Will Pucovski. The four-match Test series is level 1-1 after Australia won in Adelaide while India won in Melbourne.
