Rohit hasn't played any form of cricket since the final of the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). He has to pass another fitness test in order to be eligible for selection for the third Test which will begin on January 7.

"Rohit joins the team tomorrow. We will have a chat with him to see where he is placed physically because he has been quarantined for a couple of weeks. We will have to see now how he feels before we take the call," Ravi Shastri said in the press conference.

In the post-match presentation, India cricket team skipper Ajinkya Rahane also gave an update on Rohit Sharma’s situation. "We're excited about Rohit coming back. Spoke to him yesterday, he's waiting to join the team," Rahane said.

As for the third Test, Cricket Australia (CA) on Tuesday confirmed that the Sydney Cricket Ground will go ahead as the venue.
