Sri Lanka Cricket has suffered a significant setback with the news that their second pacer, Nuwan Thushara, has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match T20I series against India, set to commence on July 27. This comes after Dushmantha Chameera was also ruled out due to illness following the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024.
Thushara sustained a broken finger on his left hand during a practice session leading up to the 1st T20I. Asitha Fernando has been brought in to replace Chameera, while Thushara's replacement, likely to be left-armer Dilshan Madushanka, has yet to be named. Thushara had an impressive performance in the T20 World Cup 2024, taking eight wickets in three matches, including a memorable hat-trick against Bangladesh.
The upcoming series between India and Sri Lanka will consist of a three-match T20I series followed by a three-match ODI series, starting on July 27. Sri Lanka has announced Charith Asalanka as the captain for the T20Is, with the ODI squad yet to be revealed.
Meanwhile, India has announced their squads for both the T20Is and ODIs. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team in the T20Is, while Rohit Sharma will captain the side in the ODIs.
