South Africa's Reeza Hendricks made history in his very first ODI match as scored the fastest century by any debutant. Hendricks was drafted into the playing XI in the place of Aiden Markram for 3 game of the 5-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Hendricks scored an 89-ball 102 with eight fours and one six.
Reeza walked out to bat at No. 3 after Quinton de Kock had got out for just two runs. He shared a 59-run stand with Amla for the 2nd wicket. Reeza reached his fifty in 49 balls.
Reeza then started scoring more freely and raced to an 88-ball century with his last 29 runs coming off just 18 balls.
Hendricks put on a 78-run stand with JP Duminy for the 4th wicket before falling to Lahiru Kumara soon after completing his hundred.
Hendricks’ 88-ball century is the fastest century by any player on ODI debut surpassing Mark Chapman’s 103-ball hundred. Reeza Hendricks became the 14th player to score a century on ODI debut. He is the third South African after Colin Ingram and Temba Bavuma to do son.
Hendricks is the 5th player to score a century on ODI debut against Sri Lanka.
