Stats: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan bring up record-breaking partnership against Pakistan

Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma were on fire against Pakistan in the Asia Cup Super 4 match on Sunday.

Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma were on fire against Pakistan in the Asia Cup Super 4 match on Sunday as they brought up a record-breaking partnership for the first wicket. 

The openers, who have already registered two half-century partnerships in the tournament so far, added a double-century partnership as India chased 238 runs to win.

The stand-in captain and his deputy dominated the Pakistan attack and set many records during the match. Helped by some sloppy catching by the Pakistani fielders, they both scored centuries and took India close to another easy win. 

Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma added 210 runs for the first wicket before Dhawan (114) was run out after a miscommunication.

Here are some of the statistical highlights of this pratnership:

# This is the fourth highest partnership for the first wicket for India in ODIs. Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar top the with partnerships of 258 against Kenya and 252 against Sri Lanka. Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane had added 231 runs against Sri Lanka in 2014.

# This also the fifth time Indian openers have added more than 200 runs. Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag had added 201 runs against New Zealand in Hamilton back in 2009.  

# This was the 13th hundred-plus opening stand between Dhawan and Sharma. They have so far opened together in in 82 innings. Only Ganguly and Tendulkar (21) in 136 innings, Gilchrist-Hayden (16) in 114 innings and Greenidge-Haynes (15) in 102 innings have got more century partnerships as openers.

# This was India's second highest partnership for any wicket against Pakistan (Sachin-Sidhu added 231 for the second wicket in 1996) and the best opening partnership against Pakistan in one-day internationals.

# This was India's 21st biggest partnership for any wicket in ODI cricket.

# This was also the highest opening stand between these two. They surpassed their best of 178 against Australia at Nagpur in 2013. 

# This was the highest opening stand for India in Asia Cup, going past 161 runs stand between Manoj Prabhakar and Sachin Tendulkar at Sharjah in 1995.

# Rohit Sharma completed his 7000 runs during his innings. He also hit his 300th six in international cricket joining MS Dhoni as the only Indian to have done so.

# Rohit Sharma also joined MS Dhoni as the only other Indian skipper to score consecutive fifty-plus scores in Asia Cup.

# Shikhar Dhawan brought up his 15th ODI century becoming the third fastest to do so after Hashim Amla and Virat Kohli.
