Considered the best T20 team in the world, the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, Mumbai Indians after ruling the most popular T20 league in the world were all over the Team India squad selected for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 since as many as six players from the side made it to the 15-member squad.
MI skipper Rohit Sharma, all-rounder Hardik Pandya, batting duo of Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan, pacer Jasprit Bumrah and leg-spinner Rahul Chahar have all been included in the Team India line-up. Mumbai Indians are followed by the last year's runners-up Delhi Capitals as they had three players in Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel and recalled after four years, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
A couple of players from Punjab Kings in KL Rahul and Mohammed Shami have been selected while one each from Royal Challengers Bangalore (skipper Virat Kohli), Sunrisers Hyderabad (Bhuvneshwar Kumar), Kolkata Knight Riders (Varun Chakravarthy) and Chennai Super Kings (Ravindra Jadeja) were part of the squad. However, there was no player from Rajasthan Royals as Ishan Kishan was preferred as the back-up wicket-keeping option in place of Sanju Samson.
The unlucky ones to miss out were leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who has been the Indian team's premier spinner in the white-ball formats, opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan. Apart from those two, Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Chahar, who too haven't been named in the first 15 are selected as travelling reserves for the mega event.
