Gautam Gambhir hailed former Indian skipper MS Dhoni’s decision to serve the Indian Army for the next few months.
Gambhir paid his respect towards MSD and said that this move would definitely motivate the youth of the country to join the armed forces in future.
The former Indian opener termed the 38-year-old's army stint as a ‘fantastic’ move and said it definitely proves the amount of love and dedication he has towards serving his country.
“Dhoni’s decision to join the army is a fantastic move. I have said many a time that Dhoni needs to do spend time with the Indian Army if he really wishes to wear the uniform and now by deciding to really serve the army he has proved his dedication,” Gambhir said.
“This move from Dhoni will motivate thousands of youngsters to join the Indian Army,” he added.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, an honorary Lieutenant Colonel, will join the army troops in Kashmir valley by month-end and will carry out patrolling, guard duties and similar responsibilities just like other soldiers.
The Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, on July 26, made it public that MS Dhoni will no longer need any protection as he is now responsible to protect the common citizens of India.
Dhoni, the world cup winning captain, will be staying with his 106 Territorial Army battalion (Para) from July 31 to August 15 and undertake duties with the troops, Army officials said. The unit is in Kashmir Valley as part of Victor Force.
