One of the best modern-day batters and current Indian team captain Virat Kohli's career was on the line but was saved by the then skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Kohli was going through a lean patch and was on the verge of being dropped by the selectors, but Dhoni's faith in him saved him and his career.

Whether it's Chennai Super Kings or Team India, Dhoni doesn't drop players and it has proved to be helpful whether in Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma's case for India or Shane Watson and Ruturaj Gaikwad for CSK.

During the 2012 Australian tour, Kohli was going through a rough patch when the selectors were looking to drop him but Dhoni backed him and didn't let him go out of the side.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag had revealed that if selectors had their way in 2012, Kohli would never have played Test cricket. After a few innings Kohli played in Australia and had returned with low scores, selectors wanted to drop him as he was averaging just 10.75 in the first two Tests. Sehwag was Dhoni's deputy during that Test series.

Sehwag had said that both he and Dhoni together backed Kohli as the selectors wanted Kohi to be dropped and instead play Rohit Sharma in the third Test but they both showed faith in Kohli.

Sehwag further said that both he and Dhoni were responsible for retaining Kohli in the Perth Test match and the rest is the history. Kohli returned with scores of 44 and 75.

Now, if you look back at it, proves to be one of the decisive decisions in Kohlo's career, who has gone on to score several centuries and match-winning knocks for India across all three formats. Kohli has 70 centuries to his name and over 20,000 international runs.
