Team India opener Shikhar Dhawan has been divorced by his wife Ayesha Mukherjee after the latter informed it in an Instagram post which mentioned that she is now a two-time divorcee while talking about why divorce is still considered bad in India. The couple got married in 2012 even though Dhawan's family, especially his father was against it.

Now, according to media reports, Dhawan's close friend has revealed that the trouble in the marriage began in January this year, even though he couldn't reveal the reason.

Dhawan's friend also went on to say that Dhawan had acknowledged that there were issues in the relationship, but he wanted the marriage to remain but Ayesha was pretty clear from her side and then both agreed to part ways.

Dhawan posted a cryptic message on Instagram on Wednesday (September 8) and said, “Kisi bhi mukaam ko paane ke liye poora jaan, samjh, dil lagta hai. Pyaar hona chaiyeh apna kaam ke towards tabhi barkhat aati hain aur enjoyment bhi. Keep on working hard to turn your dreams into reality."

Dhawan met the former athlete Aesha through social media and fell in love, however, his family was against it since Ayesha was a divorcee with two kids. But, later they agreed to go ahead with the same.

Ayesha's Instagram post read, "I THOUGHT DIVORCE WAS A DIRTY WORD UNTIL I BECAME A 2 TIME DIVORCEE.

"Funny how words can have such powerful meanings and associations. I experienced this first-hand as a divorcee. The first time I went through a divorce I was soooooooo fu@kn scared. I felt like I had failed and I was doing something so wrong at that time.

"I felt as if I had let everyone down and even felt selfish. I felt that I was letting my parents down, I felt that I was letting my children down and even to some extent I felt as if I was letting God down. Divorce was such a dirty word.“So now imagine, I have to go through it a second time. Woooahhhhhh. That is terrifying. Being divorced once before already, felt like I had more at stake the second time round. I had more to prove. So when my second marriage broke down it was really scary. All the feelings I felt when I went through it the first time came flooding in. Fear, failure and disappointment x 100. What does this mean for me? How does this define me and my relationship to marriage?" she added.
