Twitterati slam Gautam Gambhir for allegedly calling MS Dhoni 'so-called finisher'

MS Dhoni, in 11 matches, the 40-year-old has scored just 66 runs with his average and strike rate being just a tad over 10 and 110 respectively.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 has reached the last stages of the clashes and leaving Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC), the rest are still fighting to fill the remaining two spots in the Top 4.

However, amid all this, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir may have allegedly taken a jibe at CSK skipper MS Dhoni. The cricketer-turned-politician, who is known to speak his mind, has never shied away from making a comment if he feels it is right, this time again criticized Dhoni.

In the latest turn of events, the southpaw allegedly questioned Dhoni's hitting skills and called him a 'so-called finisher.' The incident took place during the recently-concluded IPL 2021 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Dubai.

Gambhir was opining on the role of finishers and had hailed Virat Kohli as the best finisher in the last couple of years. The veteran asserted the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper has better stats than "so-called finishers."

"(Andre) Russell being called as a finisher. Virat Kohli has been the best finisher in the last couple of years, and he batted number 3. So just by giving people this term of 'finisher' doesn't make them a finisher. Compare Virat Kohli scoring the run in comparison of the so-called finishers," Gambhir had said on Star Sports.

While surely he did not take MS Dhoni's name, fans were sure the former cricketer was taking a dig at the CSK skipper as the wicketkeeper-batsman has been widely hailed as one of the best finishers.

Soon netizens took to Twitter to slam Gambhir asking if he is still jealous.

As far as Dhoni is concerned, in 11 matches, the 40-year-old has scored just 66 runs with his average and strike rate being just a tad over 10 and 110 respectively. With nine wins in the first 11 games, the three-time champions CSK have already secured a place in the playoffs.
