According to reports, the BCCI is planning to complete the sale of new IPL teams in July as it is set to become a 10-team tournament from 2022.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to see two new teams enter the fray from the next edition in 2022 while there are reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to complete the sale of the said two teams in July itself.

However, you will be surprised to know the valuation of the two teams and the cost at which they are set to be bought and auctioned.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, while the BCCI is busy planning to induct the two new teams before the second phase of the 14th edition, the IPL is set to become a 10-team tournament much before the 2022 season starts.

Amongst the current teams, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders are the four most expensive teams. While MI values around INR 2700-2800 crores, CSK's valuation according to the company's share value is around INR 2200-2300 crore.

Now, according to the report, the base price of the new franchise will be around USD 250 million, which roughly translates to INR 1800 crore and the highest bidding amount will be something between INR 2200-2900 crores.

Following the sale of the teams, the 2022 season will also be preceded by a mega-auction which was delayed by one year as it was supposed to take place in 2021 but was postponed due to the lack of time between the two seasons of the IPL.

The 2021 season of the IPL is set to resume on September 19 in the UAE, with the final slated for October 15.
