The 33-year-old had endured a tough time in 2022 so far, with runs not freely flowing out of his bat as they did before. During India's tour of England in July, Kohli's highest score was 20 runs.

Afterwards, he decided to take a month-long sabbatical, revealing later in an interview that he didn't touch the bat for a whole one month for the first time in his life.

Virat returned directly for the Asia Cup opener against Pakistan, rejuvenated, and recharged, he played a brisk 35-run knock in the first match, followed by consecutive fifties against Hong Kong and Pakistan.

After failing to open his account versus Sri Lanka, the Delhi-born batsman ended a wait of nearly 3 years to finally bring up his much-awaited 71st international century, capping off an impressive Asia Cup tournament on a high.
