MS Dhoni made a surprise return as the captain of the Indian team for a record 200th time in ODIs on Tuesday. Dhoni took charge of the Indian team against Afghanistan as Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan were rested for the match.
However, Dhoni was back to his usual self at the helm leading the side in his inimitable style.
When wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav insisted on a field change during match, Dhoni was not having none of it.
Kuldeep had asked for a change of field presumably at the fine leg/third man region where Chahar was placed but Dhoni didn’t budge. When Kuldeep persisted, Dhoni said “Bowling karega ya bowler change karein”, loosely translated to Will you start to bowl or shall I change the bowler.
His comment was caught by the stump mic.
Dhoni is known for his quips from behind the stumps. Even when not playing as a captain, he keeps talking to bowlers and encouraging them.
He often makes suggestions about the field also.
Kuldeep had recently recalled an incident when MS Dhoni lost his cool and got angry during one such conversation during the show “What the Duck”. At one time, Dhoni asked Yadav to change the field and remove cover and bring point up.
However, Yadav said that he was okay with the field. Dhoni then got angry and yelled at him, “Am I mad here who has played 300 matches?”
Kuldeep quickly agreed after that and soon got a wicket. Dhoni then walked up to him and said, “That’s what I was talking about."
