Dinesh Karthik once had to hear an earful from Sourav Ganguly after he crashed into the then Indian captain during a match.
Karthik featured on the show ‘Breakfast with Champions’ hosted by Gaurav Kapur recently. During the show he recalled how he once rammed into Sourav Ganguly during the 2004 Champions Trophy.
Karthik was a part of the 2004 Champions Trophy squad, however he didn’t get to play in that series. During the match against Pakistan, Karthik played the role of a waterboy carrying drinks for his fellow players.
After the fall of a wicket, Karthik ran towards the players who were standing in a huddle. He was carrying a lot of bottles and couldn’t stop himself at the right time. He bumped straight into Ganguly who was pushed a couple of steps.
The skipper gave him quite a scolding for that.
“Ye kaun hai, kaha kaha se pakad ke laate ho? (who is this person, from where do you get these people?)” Ganguly said.
The match was played at Edgbaston in Birmingham and India lost by 3 wickets.
