India all-rounder Vijay Shankar has come a long way from being a nervous finisher to the favourite pick for India's No.4 slot in the 2019 World Cup.

India all-rounder Vijay Shankar has come a long way from being a nervous finisher to the favourite pick for India's No.4 slot in the 2019 World Cup.

While there were talks about his selection and dropping of Ambati Rayudu, the former has kept his calm and let his work do the talking.

While shedding some light on the turning points of his career, Vijay said that he is able to understand the sense of disappointment that prompted Rayudu to come up with a cheeky tweet.

Rayudu's dip in performance made way for Vijay Shankar in the 15-man squad for the World Cup.

Chief selector MSK Prasad highlighted Vijay as a 3-dimensional player and why he was chosen over Rayudu.

After the selection, Rayudu took to Twitter to express his disappointment as he wrote: "Just Ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the world cup."

Speaking to Gaurav Kapur on his YouTube show Breakfast With Champions, Vijay said: "I know for the fact that how a cricketer would feel if they are not being picked. I can understand from a player's point of view. And I know for the fact that he didn't mean it to me.

"It was just that he put that tweet for the sake of it. I can understand the situation in which he was. It is fine for any cricketer."

Shardul Thakur's no-ball saved my career:

Talking about how he made it this far, he says his dreams might not have come to reality if not for the 'no-ball' by from Mumbai pacer Shardul Thakur.

Vijay narrated an incident from his Ranji Trophy days that involved a run-out, a clean bowled and a no-ball.

"I still remember, even after the CSK game Shardul was telling me: 'I was the one who gave you a life'. We played in Chennai against Mumbai and it was a rank-turner and Shardul bowled a beauty and I was bowled. And it was a massive no-ball. I was batting on 5, then I ended up getting 95 in that game. So that could have been my last game for TN if not for that no-ball. That 95 helped me and I had a very good season and ended up getting into the India A side and everything changed from that," explained Vijay.
