East Delhi MP Maheish Girri has pumped in crores of rupees from his Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds to develop gyms in places, including Sarita Vihar, Jeevan Nagar. Other places where residents will avail the facility are Vivek Vihar, Vishwakarma Nagar, Old Seemapuri, Dilshad Garden.

The politician has been laying emphasis on building a "healthy Delhi" since he assumed power in 2014. "We want to promote a culture of sports and regular exercise in East Delhi through these gyms. There is no substitute of exercise to keep your mind, body and soul fit," he said.

Meanwhile, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation is treading a similar path to make Delhiites fit as a fiddle. NDMC mayor Adesh Gupta last month announced that as many as 228 open-air gyms will be constructed in areas falling under the civic body.
