Two men, one of whom is a Civil Defence constable, were arrested on charges of robbery in outer Delhi's Bawana area on Saturday. The duo had started robbing people after they faced financial crisis. One Delhi Police uniform and one Civil Defence uniform were recovered from them, according to the police.
The police added that the accused have been identified as Sukhram (28) and Suresh (36), who disguised as cops and snatched mobile phones from people.
"On Friday night, a person had filed a complaint stating that two persons came on a black motorcycle and snatched his mobile phone and fled away. The pillion rider was wearing khakhi pants and a jacket," said Rajneesh Gupta, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini District).
The police said that, on Saturday, they received information about the accused and apprehended the duo from Sector 1 of DSIIDC in Bawana.
"During interrogation, it was revealed that Sukhram was a constable in Delhi Civil Defence and due to a financial crunch, he started committing crimes. At present, he was posted in the office of Deputy Commissioner (North) Alipur. He purchased the Delhi Police uniform from Kingsway camp, Delhi and was using the same to extort money from general public. While Suresh was also a constable in Delhi Civil Defense, he had, however, left the job and due to the financial crunch he started committing crime with his associate Sukhram," said Gupta.
