The corridors of ward number four, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, of the Kalavati Saran Children's Hospital have more than the usual number of security guards and policemen. People can be seen whispering to each other about the 28-year-old man who brutally raped his eight-month-old cousin on Sunday. The man has been arrested.
The child who went through a three-hour-long surgery on Monday, where her injuries required stitches in her private parts, is now critical but stable.
"The baby was brought into the Emergency unit with rectal and perineal tears (or laceration), which was a clear indication of sexual assault. In a long surgery, we have repaired the tears and she is medically stable now, but the overall mental and physical recovery will take a long time," said a senior doctor.
The barbaric incident is getting strong reactions from activists and people on social media and has renewed the fury that occurred post the 'Nirbhaya' case.
