Abhishek Verma, scheduled to appear in court on Monday, says he received an abusive email on Saturday

Abhishek Verma, one of the key witnesses in the 1984 Sikh riots case, who is to appear before the Karkardooma court on Monday, has received a threat via email, wherein the sender has stated that if he continued to be a witness in the case, he and his family members will be killed. The mail also stated that he should discontinue with his polygraph test.

Former MP and Congress leader Jagsish Tytler is an accused in the case.

The Delhi Police have now lodged a non-cognizable report under Section 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) in the matter and further investigation is on. In his complaint, Verma told the police that he received the abusive email on Saturday night, on his company ID. Considering the gravity of the situation and the scheduled court date, Verma has expressed concerns regarding his safety.

“The email stated that I should drop the idea of ‘deshbhakti’ and not continue with my polygraph (lie-detector) test as a witness against Tytler. Otherwise, my family and I will face death. The sender used sickening language, stating that he will ‘roast and eat the meat of my family members’,” Verma stated in his complaint.

He also claimed that Tytler had connections with the underworld and his men, along with him, should be the behind bars as the former MP has been behind him since he deposed as a witness against him. The email mentioned Verma’s residential residence, his car numbers, and even his wife’s car number.

Verma has three personal security officers deployed for his safety, round-the-clock, on the directions of the High Court.
